Blake Brantley - Is knowledge power?
Why do we go to school and get an education? Is it to learn and gain more knowledge so that we can find a job that provides us with lots of power? Is it coincidence that those in powerful positions tend to be very knowledgeable, at least in the industry they work in? Knowledge is and has always been power. Knowledge in the emotions of others, understanding the meaning of different ideas and concepts, and in specifics for one's field, continues to allow individuals to rise over others. The key misconception or misunderstanding is that power does not only stem from knowledge, it also comes from application. If someone knows exactly what to do or what will happen different paths, it is meaningless unless they act on what they think is the best scenario for the given problem. The scaling of different forms of intelligence in one's knowledge also impacts the amount of power they could achieve. While something like emotional intelligence can be helpful in any industry, knowledge about something niche like fishing may only provide benefits for fishers or for connecting with others who enjoy fishing. If you want to achieve power in a given field, it should go without saying that you need to be knowledgeable in the field and in the people working in that field.
