Paris, Texas. For others and Not yourself #3
Paris, Texas, showed the idea of the hero's journey in a very interesting way. It was like we were picking up in the middle or at the end of the journey. We didn’t know what was going on and how this man ended up in the middle of nowhere, but we knew he was heading for something. From the way he was walking and what he was following he had an end goal in mind. By the end we learned that he is haunted from what he has done to the mother of his child. That he wants the two of them to be back together again and have a life and a relationship together even if that is something that he cannot be a part of with them. We learn that he has spent all this time coming to terms with what he has done and realizing that he broke his family apart but there is still a way to save them now. So he sets off on this journey, and goes through the heartbreak of getting to know his son even though he knows soon he will have to say goodbye again to give him the best chance of having a loving life with his mother. It is a beautiful story of doing something above yourself, knowing that it will create a better life for other people even if it hurts you in the long run. You are doing it for them not you, and that is an absolutely selfless act.
