Frequent Reflection - #14

Last semester during Journey and Meaning Making, I wrote a blog post about how I was trying to reflect more by journaling on my life. Now as another semester has passed, I think it would be good of me to reflect on how I have grown in this regard. I think more than anything else, I am reminded that the most important thing of anything is consistency. Just like in the gym, where you can go every now and again and work incredibly hard, the most important thing lies in how repeatable it is and how often you can repeat it. Looking back on this semester, I had the goal of reflecting every single day at night before I went to bed, and some days I would do that. In fact, there were a few days where I also reflected in both the morning and the evening, which gave me this nice page to look back on where I outlined my goals for the day and then reflected on them at night. Unfortunately, like all things, life got busy. When I started to get more busy, whether that be with doing things or doing work, I would come back to my room and skip out on reflecting just to get to bed faster. This made me feel lazy, and I would often respond by writing in my journal that I was going to be better, only to make the same mistakes again and I ended this semester not having reflected in over two weeks. I think another good example of this would be my doing of the blog posts for Dr. Redick's classes. Last semester I did all of my blog posts on the last day, this semester I really wanted to make my blog posts throughout the semester only to do all of them again at the end of the semester. So just like last semester, I am ending this semester by swearing to be more consistent in the future, however, this time will hopefully be different because I ended this semester stronger and I am not going to wait around to start again. As the wise wisdom goes, the best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the next best time is now.
